Scheduling matters
I'll talk through access and operating requirements with you before work begins.
Commercial decorating planned around the space, not just the paint.
Offices, shops and other business premises need clear scheduling, practical finishes and tidy work that respects how the space is used.
A commercial decorating job can involve customer-facing areas, staff spaces, corridors, stairwells or entire premises. The work needs to be scoped carefully around access, opening hours and the condition of the surfaces.
I'll talk through access and operating requirements with you before work begins.
Customer-facing and shared spaces benefit from clean edges, sensible colours and appropriate durable coatings.
Larger projects can be divided into rooms, floors or phases where that makes practical sense.
A shop, office or managed building cannot always be treated like an empty domestic room. Access, customers, staff, deliveries, security and other contractors can all affect when and how the work is carried out.
A useful quote therefore needs more than approximate floor area. It should identify the surfaces, current condition, preparation expected, access arrangements, desired finish and any parts of the building that need to remain operational while decorating is underway.
Entrances, reception areas, corridors and shop floors often take more contact and visual scrutiny than low-traffic rooms. Finish selection can therefore be influenced by cleanability and durability as well as colour.
Some projects may be easier to divide into sections so the whole premises does not have to close at once. Where evening, weekend or other restricted access is important, that should be raised at the quote stage because it affects scheduling and logistics.
For businesses with several rooms or premises, retaining a record of colours and specifications can simplify later maintenance. A consistent approach also helps separate routine redecoration from areas that need more substantial repair.
This large hall was a complete decorating overhaul. The photograph shows the scale of the premises during the work, with floors protected and access equipment in place.
I'm Paul, and I run Nottingham Decorating. I do the day-to-day work myself and, on larger jobs, I sometimes bring in decorators I know and trust, where it suits the job. Any site-specific access or induction requirements should still be discussed when the work is quoted.
Sometimes. It depends on access, scope and availability, so mention it when you ask for a quote and I'll talk it through.
Yes. The agreed scope should be set out clearly so both sides know what surfaces, preparation and finishes are included.
