White uPVC can date a property even when the frames themselves still perform well. Spraying can be worth considering where the underlying units are sound and the goal is primarily cosmetic.

The attraction of spraying existing uPVC is straightforward: frames or doors may still function perfectly well while their colour makes the property feel dated. Changing that colour can have a large effect on the elevation without automatically replacing the units.

The existing condition still matters. Spraying does not repair failed glazing, damaged mechanisms, cracked frames or structural faults. Those issues should be dealt with separately. For suitable surfaces, thorough cleaning and adhesion preparation are essential because uPVC is not a surface that should simply receive ordinary household paint.

Masking matters

Glass, seals, brickwork, render, handles and surrounding areas need careful protection. Opening sections also require attention so the finished windows and doors continue to operate correctly. The quality of the masking is one of the things that separates a controlled respray from a quick cosmetic job.

Planning an exterior colour scheme

Window frames rarely exist in isolation. Front doors, garage doors, fascias, soffits, guttering and masonry all contribute to the front of a property. Considering those elements together can produce a more coherent result than choosing each colour separately.

When replacement may make more sense

If units are already near the end of their useful life, have significant damage or need upgrading for reasons beyond appearance, spending money on a cosmetic finish may not be the best choice. The purpose of an assessment is partly to establish whether spraying is actually appropriate.
